Fancy hats, long dresses and long cocktail glasses . . . yes, it is ladies day at Royal Ascot, and the word on the street is ‘sophistication'. Especially as Ascot has tightened its dress code this year, so you'll be strapping on a garment of gargantuan proportions if you're to stand any chance of gaining entry. With that in mind, here is Stile's quick guide on how to impress at the Royal Ascot:
Frocks, as already mentioned, must be long and impressive. Go for bold strong colours if you want to stand out, and pastel shades if you want to avoid upstaging Her Majesty. A fancy hat is a must, but avoid Princess Bea's mistake at the Royal Wedding and don't place an upturned croissant on your head. And if you get stuck, just think: “What would Catherine Middleton do?” and you'll be absolutely fine.
And which horses will the Royal Ladies HM The Queen and Lady Catherine be placing their money on? Well we can't tell you that, but we can say that they'll probably be heading to William Hill in order to place their bets. It's got an easy-to-use interface which lets you get straight to the action, and of course, you're guaranteed to get the best odds on all races both in the UK and Ireland. So that simplifies the process enormously. You ca n find horses easily, by their name or their jockey's name, and you can stream the action live over the Internet if you don't fancy meeting the Ascot's stringent fashion policy. After that, it's just a matter of filling out your betting slip - using the bet calculator to find out how much you'll be winning, of course – and cheering as loudly as possible as your horse comes in first. After that, only one problem remains: the issue of trying to remove Pimms slopped carelessly down your beautiful dress as you leapt up to cheer.

Style Your Hair

Many people say the hair is the crowning glory, if so, it should be rightfully pampered. If it's change that you're after, why not spoil your locks with a trendsetting hairstyle.
The Blow Out
The classic blow out remains unbeaten in the battle of the reigning hairstyles and the go-to shape of the year is all about charm. Ooze old Hollywood, with a soft wave or loose curl blow out.
Twist and Roll
As the trending alternative to braids, the twist is quick and easy to do. For a simple side twist, part the hair and twist gently in a downward motion. Sweep into a single ponytail or pin each coil separately. The roll similarly says fun, flirty and fast. Simply prep the hair with mousse and brush to smoothen out. Then section your hair into as many pieces as you like, and roll each section loosely and pin it at the base for the perfect edgy but low maintenance look, as seen at Armani's Spring/Summer 2012 show.
Bold Bangs
Reminiscent of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the bold fringe is not for the faint hearted. If you want to turn heads, then go for a top-heavy cropped style that will accentuate the cheekbones and piercing eyes.
Swept Away
The perfect slick back is as versatile as it is sexy. Away with the overly greased and groomed, instead, embrace the wet and glossy finish with a styling serum of your choice. Try a simple low-slung bun or ponytail with a defined side parting. Equally, the up-do can be as quirky or polished as you like, either by changing the height of your coil, or accessorising it with a hair band. The catwalks-Donna Karan and Dries van Noten and many more- were alight with variations of this sleek look.

Breaking news trendsetters, the 20s have made yet another comeback. Since the stars of the big and small screen have all given the jazz age their stamp of approval, it's your turn to hail the roaring spirit of the twenties.
Flapper Chic
Whether it's Boardwalk Empire, The Great Gatsby, or The Artist that inspires you, the key to perfecting this look lies in mastering your frills. For the daytime, pair an iridescent silver cropped top with lightweight palazzo trousers, and complete with an aviator jacket. For a glam evening look, a drop-waist dress with fringe detailing, or a simple silk slip dress with a faux-fur stole. Drop-waist dresses not only look great but also elongate the frame by creating the illusion of a longer torso.
Go with Pale
That would be your frocks not your complexion. Pastels like cream, caramel and lemon say soft and carefree, and are synonymous with the era where femininity was key. Chiffons, satins and other lush fabrics rightfully ruled the runways at Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, and Dior amongst others; plenty of proof that pastels will rule the hues this year.
The Cloche Charm
The Cloche is the go-to accessory to cinch the look. A jaunty cloche hat embodies elegance and plenty of it. Cloche hats are typically worn close to the head, so make sure yours is a snug fit; think Angelina Jolie in The Changeling. Alternatively, go with a decorative headpiece like a gem embellished ribbon or headband for a final nod to the jazz age.
Most high street stores – H&M, ZARA, Urban Outfitters – will have a range of stock to suit the modern day flapper, but if it's originality you want, go vintage by scouring online for authentic cast offs.

It's a Denim, Denim World!

With denim tipped as the comeback kid of the year, making a bold statement on both the runways and high streets, it helps to know just where and how to find the true denim favourites. Whether it's vintage or designer, casual or smart that you're after, there's enough variety to satisfy every curiosity as you delve into the curious world of modern day denim.
Go West
The eponymous Ralph Lauren label has single-handedly revived ‘Urban Western Cool', with its latest Denim & Supply range flaunting fringed backs, shades of plaid aplenty, and a range of impeccably styled distressed denim. Of the latter, whilst the entire range boasts a variety of styles, the scene-stealers are the intricately patched pieces: the denim shirts with their patriotic patches and detailed prints, and the bohemian inspired two-tone jeans. Be warned, you may find yourself buying into the promise of an entirely new wanderlust lifestyle, not just an on-trend wardrobe!
Retro Revival
Trusted vendor sites like Ebay and Etsy.com are perfect hunting grounds for vintage denim one offs; think customised studded collars and cuffs. Otherwise, dig deep into your pockets in search of quality vintage designer denim, of which Levi's Red Label Denim Shirt has been a front-runner for years. Regardless of your choice, think of each piece as an investment that will speak volumes about your personal style.
The Brave One
Go bold or…go home. There's little doubt that denim jeans will be a staple of wardrobes for an eternity, but there's no reason not to mix it up by playing with patterns and colours once in a while. If bold shades like cherry red or lime green are little too strong for your taste, try a mellower burnt orange or faded pink. Pair with neutrals - such as a loosely fitted cream blouse or a Breton (striped) shirt, and rest assured that you'll be scoring high fashion marks.

Key Trends For 2012

It always seems much too far in advance when the Spring/Summer collections first air themselves at the various Fashion Week's around the globe in Autumn of the year before, just as we start donning our big coats again for a winter ahead. January, however, whilst still cold, is the perfect time to look back at key trends from the catwalk and how we might be able to incorporate them into our day-to-day look once the sun comes out.
Here are some key trends that can translate from catwalk and are likely to be picked up by the high street:
Leather
This has been trending for some time, but the spring/summer collections really jazzed it up for the summer months. It may seem strange to have so much leather for the warm months, but short flaring skirts and mini dresses were seen parading on many of the designer's catwalks, notably Celine's well cut designs.
Peplum
The top with flaring detail at the midriff, usually seen paired with matching skirts. This may seem like a trend that will only flatter the slimmest of figures, but actually, it's a trend that really looks good on most shapes. Highlighted best with a typically hourglass figure, it suits curves, but will also give shape to anyone who needs it. Not seen much on the high street yet - but it soon will.
Prints
Like leather, this is a trend that has done the rounds already and sees no sign of slowing down. As well as continuing the trend of head-to-toe and clashing prints, the new season also saw the addition of new and fun prints that we will likely see emulated on the high street soon. Most notable was the aquatic theme with prints ranging from seashells to mermaids - and also cars - seen at the shows of Prada and designer-of-the-moment Mary Kratrantzou.
Flatforms
A fun new spin on heels; this is an even wedge style heel about 2 inches high. Very wearable, although some might dislike it's slightly orthopaedic appearance. We guarantee you'll be wearing them come spring however! For the doubters, the espadrille style it often comes in adds a certain degree of elegance.

Best Online Shops

It's becoming increasingly popular for busy consumers to take their precious shopping time away from the high street and into the hassle-free environments of their personal or work space by doing it online. Instead of taking time out to travel to the mall, jostling with other customers and facing busy queues and changing rooms with less than honest mirrors, more and more of us are purchasing our clothes with a single click of the mouse button.
The internet can be a daunting place however, so where to start? It's rare that a high street shop won't have an presence these days, so it might be worth starting with the names you already trust, however some fantastic niche websites have sprung up offering everything you need under one designer umbrella. Here we look at some of the best.
Net-a-porter.com
One of the originals and still one of the best. Net-a-porter is aimed at a high-budget crowd, though it is defiantly worth saving up for the designer dresses on offer for the immaculately wrapped parcel alone. This site houses just about every designer under the sun. From punky Vivienne Westwood through to Ricky Owens and his cool biker jackets with everything from jewellery and accessories in-between. Not to be missed, even if only for a ‘window' shop!
Asos.com
So named ‘As Seen On Screen' this site has really matured since the celebrity copy-cat style of its infancy. It's now host to a vast array of designers and brands, as well as its own branded gear, and covers everything from cheap fast-fashion to more expensive lines. This site is a go-to for any style and budget. Popular with young women in particular, this site proves a real threat to the high street.
My-wardrobe.com
Often cited as a more affordable version of net-a-porter.com, this is still online shopping in style - appealing to a more discerning or mature customer than asos.com yet still not totally inaccessible to the majority of women (or ‘everyday luxury' as its tagline suggests). Secondary designer lines, and mid-price point and classy designer such as Day Birger fill the ‘rails' of this easy use website.
Topshop.com
Whilst Topshop is a well-known high street store, it is always worth remembering as a handy ‘go-to' online destination too. As with the others, it includes many other brands and is host to hundreds of fashion lines, making it a great choice for everything from shoes to earrings (via clothes, of course) and up-and-coming designers at affordable prices.

Toronto Fashion Week Trends

The LG Fashion Week has just ended in Toronto, where incredible collections were showcased for the next season. L'Oreal Paris introduced some amazing looks for the spring season. This show provided an excellent opportunity to check out the latest fashion and trends.
The Matte Look
According to L'Oreal Paris, the matte look is still in fashion and is going to contin ue for the spring season. You have to eliminate the sheen and shine on your face this year. For toning down the shimmer, you are suggested to use a little translucent powder. This will also increase the staying power of your lipstick. You can also apply a non-glistening and soft eye-shadow for creating a matte appearance. However, if you are still interested in glossy lips, you can use warmer honey shades.
It had been noticed that hair styling was kept simple this season during Toronto fashion week. There was no additional hair product used other than a simple hairspray. The majority of the hairstyles are undone and simple. You can use wax for roughing up your hair. Rub the product in your palms to emulsify and then apply to your hair for a neater look. You can always go for a classic bun, as it is very popular this year.
Natural Face
According to Malter, L'Oreal Paris's makeup artist, natural skin is going to be hot this season. There is no need to apply a lot of makeup this spring. It might be a bit difficult for those who have flaws on their skin. Therefore, they you suggested to use as little makeup as possible. When it comes to cosmetics, the less you use them, the better results you get. Skip the foundation, all together. If you cannot do this, try to minimise a considerable extent. Do not try to pile up concealer and powder.

There are a number of ladies who have influenced the fashion industry during the last half century. Today, women are wearing some extraordinary designs and styles due to these famous figures. Though having good clothing is a conceit that cliché usually attributes to women, men are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of good clothes. And, with the global culture becoming ever more geared towards the visual, clothing is becoming more and more important as a statement about someone's personality. Here, in no particular order, are some men's clothing labels that make positive statements about a man's fashion sense.
1) Ralph Lauren
Though somewhat a safe choice, there is no denying the versatility and level of class that Ralph Lauren brings to any man's wardrobe. Whether you're wearing a three-piece suit (with matching tie) or a simple combination of polo shirt and jeans, Ralph Lauren brings that little bit of class and prestige that can help differentiate between the sublime and the ordinary.
2) Nike
With their daring designs and sporty clothes, this sports line makes some of the most fashionable clothing that any sport-loving guy could want. In Greek mythology, Nike was the name of the goddess of victory, and with their high-quality athletic gear, these sports manufacturers have invariably lived up to her. In addition to innovative and ground -breaking designs, Nike has also given us one of the most memorable tag lines ever – Just Do It.
3) Diesel
Hailing from one of the world's fashion cornerstones, Italian clothing company Diesel continues to provide high-end men's clothing in ever-changing and progressive ways. Their clothing lines are geared towards the younger generation, and thus provide everything from summer wear to warm winter clothing in fine designs. Diesel's modus operandi has always been one of restless innovation, and it has yet to fail them.
4) Calvin Klein
Whether in day wear, sporting clothes or high-end underwear, Calvin Klein has an unremitting commitment to sleek design. The company has also made rather successful forays into colognes and the like, and continue to expand their productivity. Their underwear has become legendary, and practically visible on a daily basis.
5) Burberry
A quintessentially British brand, and origin of the now globally famous Burberry check, Burberry has been in the fashion industry since the mid-nineteenth century. Iconic designs include the trench coat (stemming from the label's commission in the First World War to design military clothing), their expertise in waterproofing a true testament to their British heritage. as well as an extensive range of high quality clothing ranging from casual to formal.

Though it has become something of a cliché, women do indeed enjoy the use of good clothes. This is not confined to women however, as both men and women gain huge enjoyment out of good quality, fashionable clothing. However, some of the most famous clothing lines in the world do cater predominantly for women, and a few of them are listed here, in no particular order.
1) Coco Chanel
This clothing line, started by a French designer of the same name, originally intended to make clothes that deviated from what was then the norm for women's clothing: corsets and hoops and the like. Given the long and illustrious reputation garnered by the company, it is safe to say that they succeeded admirably. Even today, after close to a century of business, Coco Chanel continues to produce innovative and high-end clothing.
2) Yves Saint Laurent
As with many other prestigious clothing lines, Yves Saint Laurent hails from France, one of the fashion epicentres of the world. Founded by eponymous Algerian-born fashion designer, Yves Saint Laurent distinguished itself early on by adapting male designs to be worn by women, a tradition that holds to this day. With their cutting edge designs and high-profile cuts, the avant-garde position of Yves Saint Laurent is as strong as ever.
3) Versace
There is perhaps no other name more associated with glamorous and flamboyant clothing than Versace. Since its inception in the late 20th century, Versace has provided new and stylish cuts to women and men alike (though they do specialise in women's clothing). Whether with new and innovative styles of dresses or fashionable two-piece women's suits, Versace upholds its reputation with impunity and distinction.
4) Calvin Klein
Though not geared totally towards women, Calvin Klein has delivered modern and front line fashions since their beginning. Focusing primarily on denim and jeans, the company has ridden an enduring wave of popularity. Their minimalist designs are especially popular amongst the younger generation.
